Prime Minister Narendra Modi today inaugurated nine medical colleges in Uttar Pradesh, virtually from Siddharthnagar.

The nine colleges have been built at the cost of Rs. 2,329 crore and are situated at Siddharthnagar, Etah, Hardoi, Fatehpur, Pratapnagar, Deoria, Ghazipur, Mirzapur and Jaunpur. While eight medical colleges have been built under the Centrally sponsored scheme for the establishment of new medical colleges attached with district or referral hospitals, one college at Jaunpur has been built by the state government through its own resources.

The central scheme prefers backward and aspirational districts. The scheme aims at reducing the imbalances in distribution of medical colleges across different states. 157 medical colleges have been sanctioned under three phases of this scheme of which 63 medical colleges are already functional.

Before the launching ceremony, Prime Minister, escorted by governor Anandiben Patel and CM Yogi Adityanath, first visited the exhibition at Siddharthnagar. “Dream of pursuing medical education will now be a reality for youth of eastern Uttar Pradesh,” said the Prime Minister.

PM Modi also said that the new colleges will generate wide employment for more than 5,000 doctors and paramedics.

"Its reason is political priorities.Previous governments were only filling their family lockers and earning for themselves. But our priority is to save poor’s money and provide them facilities,” said the Prime Minister while attacking the past governments.

CM Yogi Adityanath presented the idol of ‘Loord Buddha’ to Prime Minister Narendra Modi at the event in Siddharthnagar. Governor Anandiben Patel, CM Yogi Adityanath and Union Health Minister Mansukh Mandaviya were also present at the occasion.
