The election for the presidency is to be held on July 18. For this, there has been an increase in the political corridors. The contention is going on between the BJP-led NDA and the Congress-led UPA candidate. Two potential opposition candidates have dropped their names as presidential candidates.
The NDA has entrusted Defense Minister Rajnath Singh to getting support from the opposition and the parties involved in the NDA. For this, Rajnath Singh contacted many big leaders of opposition and NDA ally including Mamata Banerjee, Sharad Pawar, Mallikarjun Kharge, Akhilesh Yadav, Uddhav Thackeray, Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik.
Apart from this, the BJP has also formed a management team. Its coordinator is Gajendra Singh Shekhawat. Vinod Tawde and CT Ravi have been made co-convener. At the same time, 11 members have also been appointed.
West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee is making a lot of efforts to unite the opposition. On June 15 itself, he had called a meeting of 22 opposition parties, in which leaders of 17 parties attended. However, the Aam Aadmi Party, TRS, BJD and YSR Congress abstained from the meeting.
To know this, we have asked Prof. Ajay Kumar Singh to give his opinions, he said, "Since 2014, BJP is doing what no one would have imagined. Like in 2017, Ram Nath Kovind was suddenly elected President and Venkaiah Naidu as Vice President. Till that time there was no discussion on these two names. Something similar could happen this time as well. President Ram Nath Kovind is a Dalit of Uttar Pradesh and Vice President Venkaiah Naidu comes from the Kamma family of Andhra Pradesh. At the time Ram Nath Kovind was made the President, he was the Governor of Bihar. In such a situation, BJP can field presidential candidates from three categories.
