Presidential election 2022 is going to be held next month, in such a case both the government and the opposition have started preparations. Senior Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader and Union Defense Minister Rajnath Singh on Thursday had a phone conversation with Maharashtra's Maha Vikas Aghadi Sarkar (MVA) Chief Minister and Shivsena Chief Uddhav Thackeray. In this conversation, Rajnath Singh has sought support from Uddhav Thackeray for the NDA candidate in the presidential elections. Chief Minister Thackeray said that Singh called up Thackeray at around 7 pm on Wednesday.
On behalf of the NDA, the responsibility of talking to the leaders of the opposition for the presidential candidate has been given to Rajnath Singh and BJP National President JP Nadda. After this phone call, the possibility of a meeting between Rajnath Singh and Uddhav Thackeray has also increased. It is possible that soon both the leaders will have a formal meeting with each other, whether in Delhi or Mumbai.
On Wednesday, the opposition had a meeting under the leadership of Mamta.
Earlier on Wednesday, the opposition had a meeting regarding the candidature in the presidential election, in which all the parties suggested Sharad Pawar's name but Pawar present in the meeting refused his candidature. In the meeting, Mamta Banerjee also proposed the names of Farooq Abdullah and Gopal Krishna Gandhi.
In this regard, Defense Minister Rajnath Singh has spoken to Mamata Banerjee, Congress leader Mallikarjun Kharge, SP President Akhilesh Yadav, Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar and Orissa Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik over the phone. Leaders of the opposition have demanded to name the NDA candidate before Rajnath Singh.
