DRDO successfully test-fired Prithvi-II ballistic missile at 7.40 pm on Wednesday at ITR Launching Complex 3 in Balasore, Odisha. It is a nuclear missile, capable of surface-to-surface strikes. The Prithvi 2 missile has been developed by the Defense Research and Development Organization (DRDO) with indigenous knowledge research. 

Key Features of Prithvi- II Missile

  • Prithvi 2 missile is capable of carrying warheads weighing from 500 to 1000 kg. 
  • The surface-to-surface missile is equipped with two liquid-fuel engines. It is powered by both liquid and solid fuels. 
  • According to sources, this missile, which has a range of more than 350 km, was fired from a mobile launcher from the launch complex 3 of ITR. 
  • Terming the test as a routine exercise, it is said that the missile's launch trajectory was tracked by the Rathod electro-optical tracking system and Teli metric centres, in which all the demands were met. 
  • On the occasion of its testing, a team of senior officers and scientists associated with the Defense Research and Development Organization and ITR were present on the spot. 
  • Most of the missiles of the Agni series  from Agni 5 to Agni 4 are successfully tested during the day from Abdul Kalam Island, Odisha.

Missiles are being Modernised

After successfully testing the Prithvi missile in the morning, it is now being successfully tested at night as well. Indian scientists have successfully tested various missiles in India in the morning, in the afternoon and even in the evening. Perhaps scientists are now trying to know whether missiles can be tested at any time of the day or night, whether it is morning or evening, not on the day when any country leaves the war. If sources are to be believed, in the coming days many more new and old missiles will be modernized and tested.
