Punjab CM Charanjit Singh Channi:
The new Punjab Chief Minister Charanjit Singh Channi, soon after assuming office, decided to hike the basic salary of the government employees by 15% today. The Chief Minister also directed all government officials and employees to ensure their presence during office hours.
Charanjit Singh Channi directed them to reach the office by 9 AM and be available for public till evening office hours. This move is aimed at bringing discipline in government offices, the statement said. Emphasizing on the need to bring transparency in government offices, Channi also directed all the officers and employees to redress the grievances of the people on priority.
It must be noted that last month, a 15% increase in the basic pay of government employees was announced. Apart from this, the state government had also decided to revive some of the allowances of the employees.
These decisions were taken last month when Captain Amarinder Singh was the Chief Minister of Punjab, but he was not able to implement this decision. It must be noted that the number of government employees in the state government is 2.85 lakh and the number of pensioners is 3.07 lakh.
It must be noted that after the resignation of Captain Amrinder Singh, Charanjit Singh Channi has become the new Chief Minister of Punjab, who is also the first Dalit CM of Punjab. Charanjit Singh Channi took the oath as the Chief Minister of Punjab on 20th September 2021 along with two other Deputy CMs namely Sukhjinder Singh Randhawa and OP Soni.
