The political crisis has suddenly intensified in the Rajasthan Congress. Due to this crisis, there is a possibility of a complete change in the race currently running for the post of Congress President. The biggest reason for this change is Rajasthan Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot. Gehlot, who is considered the frontrunner in the race for the post of party president, has now come to the centre of the turmoil in the state.
There is a strong possibility that now Rajasthan Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot may be out of the race for the next President of Congress. There are two reasons for this.Firstly, Gehlot was seen till now as a candidate in whom Sonia and Rahul Gandhi have confidence (even if there is no strategic backing).Even though he has publicly said that he will be fair, but Sonia Gandhi is said to have persuaded Gehlot to contest for the post of president.
More than 90 MLAs in Rajasthan have refused to accept Sachin Pilot as the next Chief Minister. It is feared that Gehlot may be behind this 'rebel' stand adopted by the MLAs of Rajasthan. More than Pilot's protest, this is being seen as an insult to Congress High Command representatives, Mallikarjun Kharge and Ajay Maken, whom the MLAs refused to meet. Ajay Maken has already termed the absence of MLAs as 'indiscipline'.
