The Election Commission has issued a notification for the election of two Rajya Sabha seats falling vacant in Punjab. Two seats in the Rajya Sabha from the Punjab quota will be vacant on July 4. Both these seats are sure to go to the account of the Aam Aadmi Party.

Aam Aadmi Party has got a thumping majority in the Punjab Assembly elections. The Aam Aadmi Party has 92 MLAs in the 117-member assembly. Earlier, elections were announced for five Rajya Sabha seats in the state, in which Aam Aadmi Party candidates were elected unopposed in all the seats. 

The six-year term of Congress' Rajya Sabha member Ambika Soni and Shiromani Akali Dal's Balwinder Singh Bhundar ends on July 4. The process of election has started regarding this. Punjab Chief Electoral Officer Dr S. Karuna Raju informed that the nomination process will start from May 24.

The last date for making nominations for the Rajya Sabha elections will be May 31. Scrutiny of nominations will take place on June 1. The last date for withdrawal of nominations is June 3, while polling will be held on June 10 and the counting of votes will take place on the same day in the evening. However, there is no chance of voting. Because due to weak opposition, the candidates of the Aam Aadmi Party are not going to face any kind of challenge.
