On January 26, 1950, India observed its first Republic Day. Since then, it has become customary to have important foreign politicians as major guests. The Republic Day programme was held in numerous locations between 1950 and 1954, including Red Fort, Ramlila Maidan, and Irwin Amphitheater, which is now also known as National Stadium. Following that, the Republic Day procession was held on the Rajpath, now known as the Duty Path, for the first time in 1955. The 74th Republic Day will feature Abdul Fateh El Sisi, the president of Egypt, as the special guest. India has extended invitations to nearby and neighbouring nations twice, three times, or even four times. Bhutan has sent the chief guest four times. At the same time, chief visitors from Nepal, Pakistan, and Sri Lanka have arrived twice. However, the major visitor has only ever travelled from China, a close neighbour.
