Shiv Sena MP Sanjay Raut was arrested by the ED at 12 pm on charges of money laundering. On Wednesday, this action was taken by the ED after an interrogation of six and a half hours. Sanjay Raut is an accused in the Patra Chawl scam of Maharashtra. After Raut's arrest, his brother Sunil Raut said that he was wrongly arrested. We have not been given any paper regarding the arrest.
It is reported that the Enforcement Directorate has arrested him. The central probe agency had raided Raut's residence on Sunday. During that time Rs 11.50 lakh was confiscated from his house. Even before this, the ED has issued summons to Raut several times. In the year 2018, MHADA filed an FIR against Guru Ashish Construction Company alleging fraud. The matter was referred to the Economic Offences Wing. In 2020, Praveen Raut was arrested who is said to be close to Sanjay Raut. Praveen Raut was the director of the company along with Sarang and Rakesh Wadhawan. Wadhawan brothers are also accused in the PMC Bank scam.
An FIR has been registered against him amid his arrest in the land scam case. It is reported that this complaint has been registered against him for threatening the female witness. The ED had raided Raut's residence on Sunday, following which he was arrested. According to news agency ANI, an FIR has been registered against Raut under sections 504, 506 and 509 at Vakola police station for allegedly threatening Swapna Patkar. Patkar Patra is a witness in the Chawl land scam case.
A police officer said on Sunday night that witness Swapna Patkar has lodged a complaint with the Vakola police station. He said Patkar had recently approached the police claiming that he had been threatened with rape and murder in a typed letter. This letter was kept in a newspaper given to him on 15 July.
