SCO Summit 2022: PM Modi will attend SCO Summit today, these issues will be discussed

Prime Minister Narendra Modi will leave today to attend the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation Summit 2022 held in Samarkand, Tashkent. There he can meet Russian President Putin, Chinese President Xi Jinping, Iranian President, Pakistan PM.

The Ministry of External Affairs issued a statement

The Indian Ministry of External Affairs issued a statement saying that the summit will be attended by leaders of SCO member countries, observer countries, Secretary General of SCO, Executive Director of SCO Regional Anti-Terrorist Structure (RATS), President of Turkmenistan and others. Invited guests will attend. The Ministry of External Affairs said that the Prime Minister is also likely to hold some bilateral meetings on the sidelines of the summit.

Besides Chinese President Xi Jinping, Russian President Vladimir Putin, Pakistani Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif is expected to attend. However, there is no official statement in this regard whether PM Modi will hold a meeting with Xi Jinping and Pak PM Sharif. During the summit, the leaders are expected to review the organisation's activities over the past two decades and discuss the state and prospects of multilateral cooperation in the future, the statement said.

What will be discussed

The Foreign Secretary said that security, connectivity, trade, tourism and other matters will be discussed in detail during this entire summit. India will emphasise on strengthening its relations with Central Asia and neighbouring countries. The founding member countries of SCO are China, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Russia, Tajikistan and Uzbekistan. India and Pakistan joined as its full-time members in 2017.
