Shiv Sena with the government on 'One Nation, One Language', Sanjay Raut said - India should have only one language

The controversy regarding Hindi language in India has deepened again. Shiv Sena leader Sanjay Raut says after Tamil Nadu's Higher Education Minister's statement on Hindi that he respects Hindi and speaks only in Hindi in the House. Therefore, Home Minister Amit Shah should accept the challenge of one nation, one language and declare Hindi as the only language of the country.

Reason for Sanjay Raut comment

His remarks were in response to a question by Tamil Nadu Education Minister Ponmudi a day earlier, in which he had condemned any attempt to impose Hindi allegedly and questioned the claim that learning the language would provide employment. Taking a jibe at those claiming employment opportunities are available to Hindi learners, Ponmudi had asked who were selling 'pani puri' in Coimbatore right now. He was clearly referring to the Hindi speaking vendors involved in this work.

"Union Home Minister Amit Shah should accept the challenge that all states should have one language," he said. There should be one nation, one constitution, one mark and one language. Responding to a question, Raut said Shiv Sena founder Bal Thackeray was, is and will remain the only "Hindu Hriday Samrat".

Union Cabinet agendas to be prepared in Hindi

In April, Amit Shah, chairman of the Parliamentary Committee on Official Language, informed members that 70% of the Union Cabinet's agenda would now be prepared in Hindi. A Home Ministry statement quoted Shah as saying that the time has come to make the official language an important part of the country's unity.

He said that when citizens of other language speaking states communicate among themselves, it should be in the language of India. Hindi should be accepted as an alternative to English and not as a local language.
