Sri Lanka Crisis: How violence erupted that set PM Mahinda Rajapaksha's house on fire

Incidents came to light in which 5 people including ruling party Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna MP Amarkirthi Atukorala were killed and more than 190 people were injured.

Army personnel deployed in Colombo

Hours before the development, army personnel were deployed in the capital Colombo and a nationwide curfew was imposed after supporters of Mahinda Rajapaksa attacked protesters outside President Gotabaya Rajapaksa's office.

After reports of Mahinda Rajapaksa and some of his family members arriving there after leaving the Prime Minister's official residence 'Temple Trees', the newspaper 'Daily Mirror' reported. has started. Arjuna Ranatunga blames SLPP

Former Sri Lankan cricketer Arjuna Ranatunga has blamed the Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna (SLPP) for the arson in the country. Ranatunga said Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna gathered people at the official residence of former Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa. Ranatunga also said that the rioters were gathered outside the house of MPs by Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna. Significantly, from noon to late evening, the house of several MPs of the ruling party of Sri Lanka has been set on fire.

It is worth noting that on Monday itself, Mahinda Rajapaksa resigned from the post of Prime Minister at the behest of President Gotabaya Rajapaksa. It is being told that last evening there was a meeting between the President, the Prime Minister and some of his special people regarding the political crisis in the country, after which President Gotabaya asked Mahinda Rajapaksa to resign from his post. Violence has erupted in the country after Rajapaksa's resignation.
