Swatantra Dev Singh resigns as leader of UP Legislative Council

Former BJP President Swatantra Dev Singh has resigned as the leader of the Legislative Council in Uttar Pradesh. However, no official information has emerged in this regard as to why he has resigned from the post of leader in the Legislative Council. If BJP sources are to be believed, Swatantra Dev Singh has resigned citing busyness. Keshav Prasad Maurya has been made the leader in the Upper House after Swatantra Dev Singh resigned from the post of leader in the Legislative Council.

K.P. Maurya to replace Swatantra Dev Singh

Swatantra Dev Singh had resigned from the post of BJP's state president, Uttar Pradesh unit at the end of July. His term ended on July 16. In 2019, he was made the state president of BJP in 2019. The BJP had won 255 seats in the 2022 assembly elections under the chairmanship of Swatantra Dev Singh. 

In place of Swatantra Dev Singh, now Uttar Pradesh Deputy Chief Minister Keshav Prasad Maurya has been made the leader of the Legislative Council. However, it is not yet clear why Swatantra Dev Singh resigned. Swatantra Dev Singh was elected the leader of the Legislative Council in May and replaced former deputy CM Dinesh Sharma here. 

Swatantra Dev Singh congratulated K.P. Maurya

Swatantra Dev Singh is the Minister of Jal Shakti in the Yogi government. Deputy Chief Minister Keshav Prasad Maurya is handling the responsibility of many important departments along with the Deputy Chief Minister in the Yogi government. At the same time, after the resignation of Jal Shakti Minister Swatantra Dev, former Deputy Chief Minister Dr. Dinesh Sharma was also being speculated to be made Leader of the House but it did not happen. Swatantra Dev Singh himself has congratulated Keshav Prasad Maurya on being made the leader of the UP Legislative Council. He tweeted, 'Heartfelt congratulations and best wishes to Deputy Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh Keshav Prasad Maurya ji on becoming the Leader of the House in the Legislative Council.'
