  1. Zeb-un-Nissa

Zeb-un-Nissa was a Mughal princess and the eldest child of Emperor Aurangzeb and his chief consort Dilras Banu Begum. She was also a poet, who wrote under the pseudonym of "Makhfi" or “Hidden”. She was imprisoned by her father in the last 20 years of her life at Salimgarh Fort, Delhi. Also her writings were collected posthumously as Diwan-i-Makhfi.



  1.  K. G. Subramanyan

Kalpathi Ganpathi "K.G." Subramanyan was an Indian artist. He was awarded the Padma Vibhushan in 2012 by the Government of India. 



  1. Dharma Bhiksham

Bommagani Dharma Bhiksham was a veteran leader of the Communist Party of India, was a member of the 10th Lok Sabha, and 11th Lok Sabha of India. He was the renowned freedom fighter during the Telangana peasantry armed struggle at the time of Nizam regime. He was well-known trade unionist and president of All India Toddy Tappers and workers Federation. The government of India honoured him by awarding the Thamra Patra.

Randhir Raj Kapoor is an Indian actor, film producer and film director who worked in Hindi cinema. His famous movies are  Jeet (1972), Hamrahi (1974), Jawani Diwani (1972), Lafange (1975), Ponga Pandit (1975) and more.

  1. Mirza Ghalib

Mirza Asadullah Baig Khan is also known by the pen names of Ghalib and Asad ( was an Indian poet or “Shayar”. His honorific was Dabir-ul-Mulk, Najm-ud-Daula. During his lifetime, the already declining Mughal Empire was eclipsed and displaced by the British East India Company Rule and finally deposed following the defeat of the First Indian War of Independence (Sepoy Mutiny) of 1857; these are described through his work. He wrote in both Urdu and Persian.
  1.  Subhadra Kumari Chauhan

A poet from Uttar Pradesh, Subhadra Kumari Chauhan is most popularly known for her poem "Jhansi ki Rani" (about the courageous Queen of Jhansi).



  1. Tej Singh Prabhakar Bahadur

Died in 2009, Tej Singh Prabhakar Bahadur, the last ruling Maharaja of Alwar.

  1. USS Maine destroyed, leading to Spanish-American War

On this day in 1898, an explosion in Havana harbour sank the battleship USS Maine, killing 260 American seamen and precipitating the Spanish-American War, which originated in the Cuban struggle for independence from Spain.



  1. Soviet Union Troops Retreat from Afghanistan

In 1989 on this day,  under President Mikhail Gorbachev, the Soviet Union withdrew its last troops from Afghanistan after occupying the country since 1979.
