Sainik school named after Gen Bipin Rawat

A Sainik School in Mainpuri district in Uttar Pradesh has been named after General Bipin Rawat. General Rawat was India’s first CDS who dies in a chopper crash in Tamil Nadu. "As a tribute to General Bipin Rawat, who sacrificed his life in Gen Bipin Rawat (File photo) the service of the nation, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has decided that Sainik School, Mainpuri, will be, henceforth, known as General Bipin Rawat Sainik School," the Chief Minister's Office (CMO) said.

France fines Google and Facebook 

On Thursday, France's CNIL data privacy watchdog said it had fined Google 150 million euros ($169.38 million) and Facebook Ireland 60 million. It stated that Facebook and Google had made it difficult to refuse cookies.

"The CNIL has found that the, and websites do not allow to refuse cookies as easily as it is to accept them", the watchdog said in a statement. The CNIL said it was imposing an extra penalty payment of 100,000 euros per day of del.

Pravasi Bhartiya Diwas celebrated on 9 January

The purpose of celebrating Pravasi Bharatiya Divas is to recognize the overseas Indians who have contributed to the development of India. This day was first observed in 2003. Pravasi Bharatiya Divas is celebrated on January 09 because the father of the nation,  Mahatma Gandhi returned to India from South Africa on January 09, 1915. This day is also called NRI Day. 

Pakistan: First female judge nominated in the supreme court

A top judicial commission of Pakistan has nominated a female judge to the supreme court for the first time in the nation’s history. The move to pave the way for Justice Ayesha Malik to join the court has been widely appreciated by lawyers and civil society activists as a defining moment in the struggle for gender equality in the country. Maleeka Bokhari who is the parliamentary secretary for law and justice called it a “shattering of the glass ceiling”.

Starlink India: Head Sanjay Bhargava Resigns

According to the LinkedIn post, Starlink India Country Director Sanjay Bhargava has resigned from his position. The move comes just weeks after the government stated that Starlink Internet. It had also advised the public not to subscribe to the services that are being advertised by the Elon Musk-backed company, without getting a requisite licence in India.
