Philippines bans child marriage


On 8 January a law was made in Phillippines in which child marriage was prohibited. President Roderigo Duerte signed this law-making child marriage illegal in the country.  The law states that marriage under the age of 18 years can lead to 12 years imprisonment. 


Urjit Patel Appointed AIIB Vice President



On Sunday, former Reserve Bank of India (RBI) governor Urjit Patel has been appointed as the vice president of the Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank (AIIB) which is a Beijing-based multilateral funding institution.
India is a founding member of AIIB with the second-highest voting share after China. It is headed by the former Chinese vice-minister for finance Jin Liqun.



World Hindi Celebrated on 10 January

 

This day is celebrated every year on January 10. Its objective is to create a suitable environment for the promotion of Hindi worldwide and to present Hindi as the prevalent language of the world.
The Indian Embassies located in other countries outside India celebrates World Hindi Day by organizing special programs. Various government and non-government institutions organise unique programs for the promotion of Hindi.

 

 

OPEC appoints Haitham Al Ghais as the new secretary-general

 

Kuwaiti oil executive Haitham Al Ghais has been appointed as the new secretary-general of the Organization of the Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC). It is noted that demand for oil continues to improve amid recovery from the coronavirus pandemic. Al Ghais is a veteran of the Kuwait Petroleum Corporation and Kuwait’s Opec governor from 2017 to June 2021. He will take the group’s administration in August, replacing Mohammad Barkindo.

 

 

Uttar Pradesh secures first place towards water conservation

 

On Friday, Uttar Pradesh bagged the first prize for its efforts towards water conservation in the National Water Awards 2020 organised by the Union ministry of Jal Shakti. Rajasthan and Tamil Nadu bagged the second and third prizes, respectively, in the best state category.
