Tomato-Onion Price Hike: After fuels, price of Vegetables experience immense surge, Know the retail prices here

After hike in prices of Petrol and Diesel, now prices of Onions and Tomatoes are also experiencing a surge. The prices of both the essential commodities have been increasing continuously. Since past 15 days, the prices of Onions and Tomatoes have increased by two times. This is severely impacting the budget of general public.

Along with onions,vegetables like tomatoes, brinjal, capsicum, cauliflower have also grown expensive. The retail price of Onions has increased to around Rs. 50-60/kg whereas the price of tomatoes is as high as Rs. 80-90/kg. 

The price hike in Vegetables has been caused by two factors. First one being the continuous increase in prices of Petrol and Diesel, directly impacting the common man. The second reason is the heavy rainfall experienced by the states of Maharashtra and Karnataka, which has harmed the crops in both the states.

Here are the retail prices of Onions and Tomatoes in 6 major cities of the country.

Delhi

Onions- Rs. 50-60/kg

Tomatoes- Rs. 80-90/kg

 

Mumbai

Onions- Rs. 50/kg

Tomatoes- Rs. 60/kg


Prayagraj

Onions- Rs. 60/kg

Tomatoes- Rs. 80/kg


Patna

Onions- Rs. 45/kg

Tomatoes- Rs. 50/kg


Lucknow

Onions- Rs. 50/kg

Tomatoes- Rs. 60/kg


Jaipur

Onions- Rs.60/kg

Tomatoes- Rs. 80/kg

According to the market experts, the prices of vegetables will not decrease very soon since there is time for new crops to enter the market. Once the new crop will arrive, the prices of vegetables will decrease and will become affordable.
