Tulika Maan of India accepted a silver medal on Wednesday in the Women's Judo +78 kg event of the Commonwealth Games 2022 after losing to Sarah Adlington of Scotland. India already has 15 medals from the Commonwealth Games 2022 thanks to Maan's efforts. When Tulika was able to knock her opponent to the ground, she was awarded a point. The gold medalist from the 2014 Games had started the match conservatively and had already received two cautions. With less than a minute left on the clock, the Scottish judoka executed a brilliant attack that took down Tulika and earned an Ippon to win the match.
Sushila Devi Likmabam previously took home a silver medal in the women's 48kg division and Vijay Kumar Yadav a bronze medal in the men's 60kg category. India has won five bronze medals and three silver medals in judo thus far at the Commonwealth Games. Before Birmingham, the Commonwealth Games featured judo as an optional sport in 1986, 1990, 2002, and 2014. Tulika defeated Sydnee Andrews of New Zealand in the semifinals after initiating an attack at the two-minute mark of regular time. The final day of competition in the women's highest weight category got off to a strong start for Tulika, who received a bye in the Round of 16, defeating Mauritius' Tracy Durhone by an Ippon.
