In the Tikunia area of Lakhimpur Kheri district of Uttar Pradesh, some farmers were protesting against the government when suddenly a car came and trampled the farmers and leaves. Farmers were also agitated by this accident and violence took place. Four farmers, two BJP workers, a driver and a journalist are killed in this entire incident.

The main accused in the case is Ashish Mishra, son of Union Minister of State for Home Ajay Mishra Teni, as well as 14 more people are also booked. After this, on October 10, Ashish Mishra was arrested and sent to jail. However, later he was granted bail. The opposition leaders had been demanding Mr Mishra's removal from the Council of Ministers.

Ashish Mishra in Lok Sabha said "I would like to tell Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury that I filed my nomination for Lok Sabha in 2019. If there is even one case against me, if I have been to jail even for a minute, I will quit from politics,"
Mr Mishra had been maintaining a low profile since the mowing down of farmers in Lakhimpur Kheri, as it had become a major issue in the run up to the Uttar Pradesh assembly elections.
