UP elections 2022: Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav to contest elections from Mainpuri's Karhal constituency

Samajwadi Party (SP) national president and former chief minister Akhilesh Yadav has decided to contest the Uttar Pradesh assembly elections 2022 from the Karhal assembly constituency of Mainpuri. Sources have told ANI news. It was rumored that Akhilesh can contest from Gunnaur in Azamgarh, but today, putting an end to all the speculations, the Samajwadi Party has announced the seat. Mainpuri is considered a stronghold of the Samajwadi Party. SP's patron Mulayam Singh Yadav is the MP from Mainpuri. It is known that SP leader Sobran Singh Yadav is the sitting MLA in Karhal assembly seat.

Reason for Contesting from Mainpuri

Talking about the political figures, so far only SP has occupied the Karhal constituency, BJP has registered victory only once from here. This is the reason why Akhilesh Yadav has decided to contest from Karhal seat which is considered safest of SP. Akhilesh’s father Mulayam Singh Yadav is also an MP from Mainpuri. Political experts say that SP President Akhilesh Yadav has also decided to contest elections in his own stronghold like CM Yogi.
