UP Loksabha Bypoll: SP plays bet on Dalit face from Azamgarh, Sushil Anand will be the candidate

Samajwadi Party has played bet on Dalit face in the Lok Sabha by-election from Azamgarh in Uttar Pradesh. SP has fielded Sushil Anand from Azamgarh. SP President Akhilesh Yadav was elected MP from Azamgarh in the 2019 Lok Sabha elections. However, he contested the assembly elections from Karhal seat of Mainpuri district in the UP assembly elections. In this he had won. After this, Akhilesh Yadav resigned from the Lok Sabha seat of Azamgarh. Akhilesh Yadav is now the Leader of Opposition in the UP Assembly.

Who is Sunil Anand

Sushil Anand is the son of Balihari Babu, one of the founding members of BAMCEF. Till now Samajwadi Party was preparing to field Dimple Yadav or Ramakant Yadav in this seat. But Ramakant refused to contest the election.

There is a discussion in the political circles behind the fielding of Sushil that SP is adopting a strategy to save its fort by playing the Dalit card. It is noteworthy that before this, Shah Alam Guddu Jamali of BSP has filed nomination as a candidate in the Lok Sabha by-election, while BJP has not yet declared the name of the candidate. Dinesh Lal Yadav Nirhua's name is leading from BJP's side.

BSP’s candidate

Bahujan Samaj Party has fielded Shah Alam alias Guddu Jamali from Azamgarh. The BSP has already adopted the strategy of breaching the Muslim vote bank by fielding Guddu Jamali. The Bharatiya Janata Party has not yet opened its cards for Azamgarh. Voting in Azamgarh by-election is to be held on June 23.
