In an unfortunate development for BJP,Uttarakhand Transport Minister Yashpal Arya and his son Sanjiv Arya have joined the Indian National Congress, ahead of the Assembly elections in the State in 2022.
Both the leaders allied with Congress in the presence of former Uttarakhand CM Harish Rawat, Uttarakhand PCC President Ganesh Godiyal AICC President KC Venugopal and National Spokesperson of Congress Party.
Yashpal Arya served as Uttarakhand Cabinet Minister responsible for Transportation, Social Welfare, Minority Welfare, Students Welfare, Rural Water Reservoirs Development, Remote Areas Development, Sub-Divisional Development and Management, Backward Areas Development.
Yashpal Arya had quit the Congress Party in 2017 ahead of the then assembly elections to become a part of Bharatiya Janata Party. He was fielded by BJP in Bajpur while his Son Sanjiv Arya in Nainital, where both of them registered a win and were elected to the Legislative Assembly of Uttarakhand. Yashpal took the oath as chief minister in recent July, when Pushkar Singh Dhami was appointed as the Chief Minister of the state.
On the other hand the former President of J&K National Conference, Devender Singh Rana and Surjit singh Slathia left the National Congress on Sunday and joined the Bharatiya Janata Party on Monday in presence of Union Minister Hardeep Singh Puri, Dharmendra Pradhan and Jitendra Singh. Devender Singh is the younger brother of MOS Jitendra Singh, and was considered as one of the key leaders of National Conference. Hence, his resignation is a big blow for the party
