Veer Savarkar Poster Row: Uproar in Karnataka Assembly over Savarkar, Opposition protests

Publish Date: 19 Dec, 2022 |

There has been a ruckus over the installation of Veer Savarkar's photo in the Karnataka Assembly hall. Leader of the Opposition Siddaramaiah along with other leaders staged a protest outside the assembly against the posting of this photo. Accusing the government, the Congress said that the ruling party wants to disrupt the proceedings of the assembly. That's why he has brought this photo, because Congress is going to raise many issues of corruption against him. They do not have any agenda of development.

BJP reply to the opposition

Meanwhile, the Bharatiya Janata Party has also hit out at the opposition's opposition. "There must be ideological differences, but Savarkar is a freedom fighter," Union Minister Pralhad Joshi said outside Parliament in Delhi today. He further said, "Then ask Siddaramaiah whose poster to put up, Dawood Ibrahim's".

The issue of border dispute with neighboring Maharashtra is likely to figure during the 10-day winter session of the Karnataka Assembly. Meanwhile, outside the assembly in Nagpur, the opposition Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) in Maharashtra raised slogans targeting Chief Minister Eknath Shinde and Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis.

Congress call Veer Savakar anti national

Congress and Rahul Gandhi have been calling Veer Savarkar anti-national. Recently, Rahul Gandhi had alleged that Savarkar had met the British. He had cheated other people including Gandhiji. Whereas, BJP believes that Veer Savarkar was a patriot. He played an active role in the freedom movement.
