Unidentified people attacked priests outside the ancestral house of former Tripura Chief Minister Biplab Kumar Deb late on Tuesday night. The incident took place when a group of priests reached Deb's residence at Rajnagar in the Jamjuri area of Udaipur. The priest had come on Wednesday to perform the Yagya at the annual Shradh ceremony of Deb's father.
A priest named Jitendra Kaushik described his trauma after his car was wrecked "To see the Maa Tripura Sundari Temple was why I had come. At the same time, locals have begun to demonstrate against the occurrence. The demonstrators looted the perpetrators' stores in their rage over the attack on the priests' group. A large group of police forces was deployed to deal with the protestors. Sub Divisional Police Officer Nirupam Debbarma and Additional Superintendent of Police Debanjana Roy also arrived at the scene to deal with the situation.
