Much of North India is experiencing a sudden change in the weather. Wheat grain was scattered in the fields in Punjab's Gurdaspur and Pathankot because of a hailstorm on Wednesday night, while there was light rain in several areas of Rajasthan and Uttar Pradesh. In numerous towns, including Lucknow, the capital of UP, it has been raining since this morning, which has caused the temperature to drop by five to seven degrees.

For the next five days, the Meteorological Department expects rain and a partly cloudy sky in Delhi, Haryana, Punjab, Rajasthan, and Uttar Pradesh. On March 20 and 21, there may be light rain during the morning hours and afternoon.

Relief from heat

Over these five days, there will be some relief from the heat and a slight drop in temperature, but beginning on March 22, the heat and temperature will start to rise once more. According to Dr. PK Kingra, head of Punjab Agricultural University's meteorological department in Ludhiana, instructions have been given to farmers not to irrigate the wheat crop due to the probability of inclement weather. The state will have mild to moderate rain accompanied with thunderstorms, according to Radheshyam Sharma, director of the Jaipur Meteorological Centre. Hail could possibly drop.
