Whatsapp is working on a new feature, called the companion mode: know what is companion mode

WhatsApp is working on a new feature called Companion Mode. This is somewhat similar to the multi-device feature, but the special thing is that through this you can connect a secondary device as a primary phone. That is, to understand in easy language, you will be able to run the same WhatsApp account on two smartphones simultaneously.

As per previous reports, users will be able to see a new “Register Device as Companion” section, under the multi-device feature. The report also suggests that you may be able to pair your other smartphone by pointing your main device to the screen of the secondary device to scan QR code and authenticate the link.

What is Companion Mode?

The Companion mode allows users to link their primary smartphone with a WhatsApp account on another smartphone. Switching to Companion mode will, however, log you out from your WhatsApp account on your primary device.

As per the screenshot shared in the report, pairing your WhatsApp account with another smartphone will also erase all locally stored WhatsApp data, including your messages and media. It is worth noting that the operation will not have any impact on WhatsApp data stored on Google Drive or iCloud.

Report released by WABetainfo

According to a report by WhatsApp features tracker WABetaInfo, WhatsApp is working on a Companion Mode that allows linking a secondary device to another registered WhatsApp account. The feature was first spotted at the end of April, with v2.22.10.13 beta for Android. But now, we have more details about how the feature will potentially work.

The report includes a screenshot showing a full-screen prompt warning for users registering a device as a companion for their main account. When you are pairing the secondary device to another registered WhatsApp account, you will be logged out from the current WhatsApp account configured on the secondary phone, says the screenshot. Also switching to WhatsApp Companion Mode will erase locally stored messages and data. As per the report, this ability to use the same WhatsApp account on different phones is being tested on both WhatsApp for iOS as well as for Android.
