Will there be a catastrophe in Joshimath? visitors are afraid, and reservations are being cancelled

Winter travel and tourism are both being impacted by the land collapse in Joshimath. In the winter, Auli and Joshimath used to draw in about 2,000 visitors each day, but the risk of landslides has caused that number to drop by 30%. Advance hotel reservations are also being canceled by tourists. The number of tourists has also been impacted by the Auli ropeway's temporary closure.

District disaster management gives statement

According to the District Disaster Management Officer, various forms of damage have been done to various homes, and 29 families who formerly resided in the worst-affected homes have already been relocated to safer locations. More families would be relocated to safer areas if necessary, he said. According to the official, the families were relocated to Milan Center, Joshimath Gurdwara, Nagar Palika Bhawan, a primary school building. He mentioned that some families had visited relatives.

Landslide affecting tourism

Although more than 2,000 visitors and pilgrims arrive in Auli each day these days, they are afraid to stay in Joshimath. Although there is no danger of landslides in Auli, there aren't many places to stay there, therefore visitors must stay in Joshimath base camp. Due to the landslide, hotel reservations made in advance are also being cancelled here.
