World First Aid Day 2022: Date, History, Significance and Theme of this year

World First Aid Day 2020, is celebrated on 10 September all over the world. This day is celebrated to make people aware of the importance of first aid. Getting the right aid at the right time is very important to reach every person, how important it is to save a life. Many times in accidents, if the right aid or treatment is not received at the right time, even the life of a person is in danger.

World First Aid Day History

World First Aid Day was celebrated for the first time in the year 2000. Since then, this day is celebrated every year on the second Saturday of September. It was established by the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC). During the Battle of Solferino on June 24, 1859, a young businessman from Geneva, Henri Dunant, experienced grief and pain. After which he obtained the necessary equipment and supplies and assisted in the construction of makeshift hospitals. In 1863, his book "A Memory of Solferino" inspired the formation of the International Committee of the Red Cross (IFRC). On this day, more than 100 Red Cross and Red Crescent societies around the world organize events and celebrations to make people aware of the need for first aid.

World First Aid Day Significance

The day is recognized worldwide to promote the significance of first aid, which is an important fundamental skill, and create awareness on a global level about how it can save precious lives. It is an effective and rapid intervention that involves reducing pain, and injury, and therefore increases the survival chances of individuals in need. It is the treatment given to patients before seeking medical help.

This year the theme of World First Aid Day is Lifelong First Aid. Through which people can be made aware about the importance of lifelong first aid.
