World Heart Day 2021:
When talked about what is heart, the only symbol that comes up in your mind is <3, however, our heart is much more crucial to our bodies in reality. Also known as the pumping machine of the human body, our heart is one of the most hard-working organs in the human body. So, this World Heart Day, let’s know more about how our heart works, and what causes a heart attack.
This cone-shaped organ heart is of the size of your fist and measures around 300-500 grams. Our heart is located in the middle of our chest between the lungs, slightly titled towards the left. Our heart is a muscle made up of cardiac muscles that ensure involuntary movement causing the heart to beat. The human heart while beating pumps blood that spreads Oxygen to the rest of the parts of our body.
Our heart is divided into four equal parts, while the upper two parts are known as Atrium and the lower two parts are known as Ventricles. The left and right parts of our body are divided by a wall named Cardiac Septum. While Cardiac Septum plays an important role in separating the Oxygenated Blood on the left side, from Deoxygenatee blood on the right side of our heart.
In a human heart, the Atriums get deoxygenated blood from the rest of the parts of the body, while the ventricles supply the blood to the rest of the body parts. The Right ventricle supplies the deoxygenated blood to the lungs, where the blood gets oxygenated. While the left ventricle then supplies the Oxygenated blood to the rest of the body parts. While our heart has 4 valves, that stops the backflow of blood.
Just like every other organ of our body requires Oxygen to work, our heart also required Oxygen to work, and whenever our heart doesn’t get proper Oxygen, it can stop working, thereby causing a heart attack.
The basic symptoms of heart attack are:
Pain in Chest radiating to arms, neck, jaws, even stomach, and back.
Signals such as trouble in breathing, lethargy, swelling in the feet, Irregular heart rhythm, burning sensation in the chest.
High Blood Pressure
High Blood Sugar
Excess consumption of Junk Food
A person should be rushed to the hospital during a heart attack.
Chewing Aspirin that works as a blood thinner while being rushed to the hospital.
Begin CPR is the person goes unconscious.
