World Wide Web Day 2022: Date, History and Significance of the day

The world wide web is an entire different world which is filled with a plethora of unknown mysteries and surprises. The world wide web is considered to be the most widely used system to access the Internet. WWW or the world wide web has gained such importance in our lives that almost every big organisation or companies depend upon it to make their system work.

But what is the World Wide Web? And why is it so important? Well to answer your question, WWW refers to hypermedia using hypertext mark-up language or HTML. This is the most used service on the Internet. Through this, many web servers and clients connect together. Let’s take a look at the history and significance of the World Wide Web

History of the World Wide Web (WWW)

English computer scientist Tim Berners-Lee created the World Wide Web in 1989, while he was in the European Organisation for Nuclear Research (CERN) in Switzerland. He was responsible for the development of the essentials of the web –  HTTP, HTML, the WorldWideWeb browser, a server, and the first website.

Over the next two years, the development of the WWW was first shared with other research institutes and organisations. But WWW also was shared with the public as CERN shared the code and waived royalty on the use of the WWW in 1993. Less than a year later, hundreds of websites were created and the dot-com bubble started in 1995 based on the rapid developments being made using the WWW.

Significance of the World Wide Web

The World has become heavily dependent on the Internet and the World Wide Web. The dependence is so important that if we switch off the Internet for even 1 day, many countries and their economies would collapse to dust, therefore the world wide web holds a lot of significance and importance.

The world wide web being a collection of web pages contains billions of websites and data from those websites. Not only that, many governments have developed special websites for the smooth flow of the functioning, making it easy for them and focusing on a larger perspective. Experts believe that we have only scraped a pint from the deep sea of the world wide web and that pint has made our lives easy but also dependable on such a thing that has both boon and bane.
