Super Blood moon and Lunar Eclipse: On May 26, 2021, the world will witness one of the amazing supercelestial events. On Wednesday people will witness a total lunar eclipse, a red blood moon and a super moon all at once. It has also been said that a supermoon and a total lunar eclipse have not been seen in the last six years, therefore, making this celestial event even more special and spectacular to watch.
Overnight, a total lunar eclipse will be visible to parts of Southeast Asia, Australia, western North America, and all of Mexico. @NASAEarth, @NASASun, and @NASAMoon break it all down in the thread below. Where will you watch it from? Tell us! https://t.co/loLB8kqyNn— NASA (@NASA) May 25, 2021
Today's lunar eclipse of Supermoon and Bloodmoon together is special. Today, the moon will be very close to the Earth and therefore will look the largest in size and will be quite bright.earlier such a lunar eclipse was witnessed on 21 January 2019. However this year the lunar eclipse seen in many countries around the world will be accompanied by a supermoon and a blood moon.
The name 'supermoon', occurring three or four times a year, was first used by American astrologer Richard Nolle in 1979. This information has been given by NASA.
It is noteworthy that the moon which appears in the sky on the full moon day is about 7 percent larger than other days. Today it will look bigger and 16 percent brighter because it will be very close to the Earth. At 01.53 pm (IST) today, the Moon will be closest to the Earth. At this time, the distance of the Moon from the Earth will be just 357309 kilometers. This condition is called 'perigee'.

On Wed., May 26, our Moon will pass through the umbra of Earth's shadow, creating what is known as a "blood moon" in a total lunar eclipse! It’s going to be a dazzling sky show. Set your alarm: https://t.co/gx3zFoD51N pic.twitter.com/IYcZLFEFdc
Well, when Earth comes between the Moon and Sun and its shadow falls on the Moon then that event is called the Lunar eclipse. In a total lunar eclipse, the Earth’s shadow completely covers the moon and the moon is seen like a ring or its visibility is completely blocked. Due to the Earth coming in between the Sun and Moon the light of the Sun fails to reach the moon and hince the Lunar Eclipse occurs. .
The first total lunar eclipse of the year 2021 will not be visible in the national capital since the moon will be below the horizon during the time. However people of India can sight the eclipse for a short span of time in north-eastern parts of India, West Bengal, Odisha and the Andaman and Nicobar Islands as per the Ministry of Earth Sciences.
The partial phase of the lunar eclipse can be seen in India from 3:15p, IST which will end at 6:23pm IST. The total lunar eclipse will begin at 4:39pm IST and will end at 4:58pm IST. The time duration for the full lunar eclipse is 14 minutes.
Meanwhile a partial lunar eclipse can be seen in Agartala, Kolkata, Cherrapunji, Cooch Behar, Imphal, Itanagar, Guwahati, Malda, Kohima, Lumding, Puri, Silchar and Digha. In Port Blair the partial eclipse will be visible from 5.38pm for 45 minutes and in West Bengal's Malda and Odisha’s Puri it will be visible at 6.21pm for 2 minutes.
As per the The India Meteorological Department (IMD) the partial phase of eclipse will end in the northeastern parts of India (except Sikkim), parts of West Bengal, some parts of Odisha, Andaman and Nicobar Islands. Just before the moonrise.
Sumit Srivastava, the scientific officer of the Indira Gandhi Constellation, states that the distance of the Earth from the Moon is considered to be 384400 kilometers and this distance is considered to be about 405696 kilometers when the Moon is the most distant from the Earth. This condition is called Apogee. In contrast, the position of the Moon being closest to the Earth is called Perigee, in which the distance between the Earth and the Moon is about 357000 kilometers. Sumit explains that if a full moon falls in the position of the Moon's perigee then a supermoon is visible.
There are a minimum 12 full moon days in a year. Sometimes there are 13 full moon days. But it is rarely possible that a full moon falls in Perigee's condition. So, this is a special event.
In the year 2021, the moon will not be closer to the Earth anymore. This will be the Moon's closest distance to Earth throughout the year. He said that this will be the last brightest and biggest full moon of this year. Traditionally, May full moon is also called Milky Moon i.e. Milk Moon or Flower Moon or Super Corn Planting Moon. That is why the full moon on 26 will be called Super Flower Moon or Super Milk Moon. In the event of a supermoon, the moon will be seven percent larger and 16 percent brighter than the normal moon.
When an eclipse falls during a full moon then the moon is not completely covered with earth’s shadow and becomes dark. Instead the moon takes on a red colour and therefore the total lunar eclipse is also called a red or blood moon.
