Om Prakash Chautala released:
Former Chief Minister of Haryana and National President of Indian National Lok Dal (INLD) Om Prakash Chautala has been released from jail today. Prior to his release, Chautala reached Tihar Jail in Delhi where he completed all the formalities for his release.
INLD state president Nafe Rathi announced that he along with other members of the INLD party will welcome Om Prakash today at the Delhi-Gurgaon border. Adding further, he said that Chautala has been advised to take a rest due to injury to his hand, and soon after this, he will join the Farmers' Protest (Kisan Andolan) and also attend party programs as soon as he recovers.
While Chautala's release amidst the farmer’s protest movement is being considered significant. It must be noted that the 86-year-old Om Prakash Chautala has served 9.5 years out of 10 years in the teachers' recruitment scam case.
Om Prakash Chautala is out on emergency Covid-19 parole since 26 March 2020 last year, as he was in jail since 2013. His case dates back to the year 2000, when the court sentenced him, his son, and 53 others including IAS officer Sanjeev Kumar guilty in the case of illegal recruitment of 3,206 junior basic teachers.
When Chautala went to jail in 2013, his party was a big challenge for the ruling Congress party. However, now the BJP and Jannayak Janata Party have weakened their roots. But it will now be interesting to see how the situation changes with the arrival of the party supremo.
