Indian Army Day 2021: There are many challenging professions out there which require lots of responsibilities and hard work to perform. Be it the profession of a Doctor, Teacher, or Farmer, each of these is necessary for our survival and plays a vital role in our lives. But the most heroic of all is the profession of an Army officer, without which our existence can directly be in danger. The heroic deeds of our army officers haven’t gone unheard by any, and the tails of their bravery are well known among everyone. To show some gratitude towards the sacrifices made by the heroes of the Indian Army, we celebrate Indian Army Day.
Our soldiers survive in most stringent conditions, be it the scorching heat or freezing cold temperatures at Siachin Glaciers. The unbounded courage and bravery of these officials are reflected even through their words as Capt. Vikram Batra, PVC once said, “Either I will come back after hoisting the Tricolour, or I will come back wrapped in it, but I will be back for sure.”

This day is celebrated every year on 15th January in India, in recognition of Field Marshal Kodandera M. Cariappa’s (then a Lieutenant General) who became the first Indian to take over the charge of Indian Army. He took over the control for first Commander-in-Chief of the Indian Army from General Sir Francis Roy Butcher, the last British Commander-in-Chief of India on the historic day of 15th January 1949. The day also signifies the selfless services of the Indian Army, brotherhood and love for the country expressed by our soldiers.
On 15th January 2021, India will celebrate its 73rd Indian Army Day, at New Delhi in the form of Parades and other milliary shows. Amongst other celebrations throughout the country, the main Army Day Parades are conducted at Cariappa Parade Ground in Delhi Cantonment. Param Vir Chakra and Vir Chakra recipients be a part of this parade every year. Gallantry awards and Sewa Medals are also distributed on this day.
On 15th January 2020, Captain Tania Shergil became the first female officer to command the Indian Army Day parade.
