US President Joe Biden's chief medical adviser, Dr. Fauchi, praised India’s decision of the 12- to the 18-week gap between the first and second doses of the Covishield vaccine. In an interview, Dr. Fauchi said that if there is a shortage of vaccine and more and more people have to take the dose then this method is justified. At the same time, he advised that the government should insist on the production of vaccines in collaboration with other countries and companies.
Earlier on Wednesday, a panel of the Government decided to increase the interval between two doses of Covishield vaccine to 12-16 weeks.
Not only this, the American doctor said that India should work with other countries and companies to speed up the vaccination campaign so that the country's population can be vaccinated as soon as possible. Describing India as the world's largest vaccination producer, Dr. Fauchi said that India is a very big country, it has a population of 1.3 billion and so far only 10% of people have received the Corona vaccine. Therefore, India will have to work with other countries to increase vaccination production.
In an interview with the news agency ANI, Dr. Fauchi said that an important step needs to be taken to take care of covid infected patients in India. Dr. Fauchi said that it is not enough for India to get oxygen, oxygen cylinders, PPE kits, masks and oxygen concentrators only from abroad. Apart from this, India should emphasize on how to apply more and more vaccines to the citizens.
#WATCH Vaccine passport isn't going to be mandated from federal standpoint in US. Travel is going to depend on level of infection. India has very high level of infection. He said that the new mutant B1617 of Corona has been found in 40 other countries besides India, including America. In this crisis of Corona period, it becomes the responsibility of the rich countries to help the incompetent countries. Let us know that from next week, Russia's vaccine Sputnik V will also be included in the vaccination campaign.
On the effect of Sputnik V, Dr. Fauchi said that ‘I do not have much information about covaxine made by Bharat Biotech but Sputnik V is more effective. Sputnik V is 90 per cent effective against Corona. However, on covaxine, he said that he does not have much information on it.’
Apart from this, Dr. Fauchi also said that if there is a deficiency of the vaccine, then the decision to keep a difference of 12-18 weeks between the first dose of the vaccine and the second dose is justified. So that at least more and more people get the first dose of corona. Dr. Fauchi said that if you make a long difference between the two doses, then it is very unlikely that it will have a negative effect on the efficacy of the vaccine.
Meanwhile, it has also been reported that the sale of Sputnik V vaccine will start in India from next week. Let me tell you that while new cases of coronavirus in India are still coming above 3 lakh, now for the first time the total number of healthy people has crossed the mark of 2 crores.
