V.  Narayanasamy Biography:

On February 22nd 2021, the government of Puducherry led by Congress lost its confidence vote in the floor test during the Legislative Assembly. The Narayanasamy government could not prove its majority and adjourned the House sine die, as announced by the Assembly Speaker VP Sivakolundhu. 

 

Although the CM of Puducherry Narayanasamy moved the motion looking up for the confidence vote a few minutes after the Assembly met for a special one-day session, Narayanasamy along with his ruling side MLAs later moved out before the motion was even put for voting. And following this, the Speaker VP Sivakolundhu declared the motion defeated. 

 

The ruling alliance of Congress and DMK on Monday, 22nd February 2021, failed to prove its majority as it has 11 MLAs in the 33-members Legislative Assembly. While the opposition has 14 members. Now, the Union Territory is set to go for polls in the months of April-May this year.

A brief introduction to V. Narayanasamy:

Born on 30th May 1947, V. Narayanasamy also known as Velu Narayanasamy is an Indian politician who has served as the 10th Chief Minister of Puducherry from 2016 until 2021. Narayanasamy is also a member of the Indian National congress Political party. 

 

Early life and Political career of V. Narayanasamy: 

Born to Velu and Iswary in Pondicherry, V. Narayanasamy’s age is now 74 years. Velu completed his B.A. from Tagore Arts College, Pondicherry, B.L. from Madras Law College, Chennai and M.L. from Annamalai University.

 

Narayanasamy has served three tenures of Rajya Sabha MP to date. He also was a member of Lok Sabha from the Puducherry constituency from 2009 to 2014. Narayanasamy has also served as the minister of state, Parliamentary Affairs in the first UPA government. 

 

Having being served as a Member of Parliament, and represented Puducherry in the Lok Sabha, Velu has also served as a Union Minister of State in the Prime Minister’s Office during the course of the Manmohan Singh government. 

During the 2014 general elections, Narayanasamy was defeated by R. Radhakrishnan, an NDA candidate who was backed by the ruling All India N.R. Congress. Velu is a member of the Congress Working Committee and also the All India Congress Committee’s General Secretary.
