WB Post Poll Violence Case:
The Kolkata High Court has imposed a fine of Rs 5 lakh on the Chief Minister of Bengal, Mamata Banerjee for demanding the removal of a judge. As per the reports, Mamta had demanded the removal of Kolkata High Court’s judge Kaushik Chand in a case.
Mamata Banerjee had accused Judge Kaushik Chand of having relations with the BJP, and this application of the Trinamool Congress chief was rejected by Justice Kaushik Chand himself.
It must be noted that CM Mamata Banerjee had challenged her defeat in the Nandigram Assembly seat at the West Bengal Assembly Elections 2021 against Shubhendu Adhikari in the Kolkata High Court, which was being heard by the bench of Kaushik Chand. And considering this, Mamta Banerjee had demanded Justice Kaushik Chand to be separated from the case after accusing him of having relations with BJP.
And on this demand, the Kolkata High Court has imposed a fine of Rs 5 lakh on Mamta Banerjee. Moreover, at the same time, Justice Kaushik Chand has decided not to hear the matter of the Nandigram Assembly seat further on the basis of his personal discretion and has also separated the matter from its bench.
