World Food Safety Day 2021:
The food that we consume affects our body in many ways, and hence, it is always advised to consume food that is properly hygienic and safe for our consumption. Ensuring the safety of the food we consume is necessary as food is another catalyst for energy in our body provides all the essential proteins, nutrients, carbohydrates, and fats for the growth of our body.
Well, to ensure the safety of the food we consume and to create awareness for the same amongst people, the World Food Safety Day is observed on 7th June every year, all across the globe.
Foodborne diseases have been recognized as a global burden by the World Health Organisation (WHO), which usually affect individuals of all groups and ages, but are found in abundance in children under the age of 5, and people living in low-income countries.
Hence, to take some measures in order to curb the problem, the United Nations General Assembly declared the 7th of June as the World Food Safety Day in 2018. Further, in 2020, the World Health Assembly passed a resolution to strengthen global efforts for the safety of the food which is consumed with a focus to reduce the burden of foodborne diseases.
The WHO in collaboration with the Food and Agriculture Organisation of the United Nations (FAO) organizes the events for the World Food Safety Day, jointly with the Member States and other relevant organizations.
The main aim of World Food Safety Day is to create awareness for the contamination of food and water.
The theme for the World Food Safety Day 2021 is “Safe food today for a healthy tomorrow”. The theme emphasizes ensuring the production and the consumption of safe food.
So, this World Food Safety, after getting to know enough about the day, we will know more about the tips on how you can keep the food at your home safe.
Always wash your hands, counters, food, and cooking tools before starting cooking your food.
Always keep the raw food such as poultry, raw meat, seafood, and eggs at bay from other food.
While cooking food, ensure the same is being cooked at a high temperature in order to kill the germs.
Always put your food in the refrigerator after 2 hours of cooking or buying the food.
So, let’s all pledge this World Food Safety Day 2021 to follow these steps to ensure that the food we eat is hygienic enough.
